HappyLight® Therapy Lamps mimic daylight and emit a white light. It contains all the colors of the full visible spectrum of light, including blue. Blue light is necessary for light therapy to work because it helps the body regulate its biological clock, alertness, metabolic processes, cognitive function and mood. However, blue light – which can also be found in other light emitting electronic devices like computers and cell phones – is minimized to ensure safety.
All of our products are tested for Photobiological Safety of Lamps, EN63471 international testing standard, which includes UV Hazards Testing and Blue Light Hazards Testing. Our products received an “exempt” classification, meaning they pose no risk and have no limits on usage for normal eyes.
We recommend that people who are at risk factors for Age-Related Macular Degeneration or eye related disorders discuss bright light therapy with their doctors as blue light can affect certain pre-existing eye conditions.
